Fisheries after Hurricane Beryl
On July 1st, 2024 hurricane Beryl passed the island just 80 miles to the South. It was a lucky escape, but the swell it created wiped out 2/3rd of the fishing industry. I started to take photos at the fisheries only 2 weeks after the event and it was still overwhelming to see. The fishermen were there every day, watching the salvage and hoping it would be their boat coming out next. The operations were heavily influenced by the seaweed that washed in and covered everything. It stopped the divers going down for a while, as the mix of fuel from the sunken ships, trapped underneath the seaweed was a toxic mix.
